Stand by sunday (on a Saturday)

Standby sunday on a Saturday why? Because sunday is may first and I have a post ready for sunday already but I really wanted to do a stand by so why not Saturday for one time? Also plenty of bloggers have done a waiting on wensday on a different day and such and I hope this will be a rare thing but well I have a reason

Currently reading: Kanpai!

On page: with manga I go though it so fast it doesn't matter

Notes: none

On hold: Shinobi life, beyond the beyond, maid sama, psychic power nanaki

Coming soon: kieli the manga vol one

Yeah I have a load of manga this week! a grand total of seven (would have been eight but kieli didn't come in and is yet to be in transit) I should confess that this is mainly filler books though ^^; out of the eight there were only four I truly wanted to read the others were a "I'll give it a shot" the reason for this? I honestly had no real reviews planned things got kinda sticky in some situations and a selfish reason of wanting to beat my record of last year over the summer

Yeah thats the reason and I'll get more on that this week for now enjoy the manga

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-gtk1

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has grown to be one of the most popular anime in Japan and around the world. Aired in 2006, this smash-hit dominated the anime market at the time and still holds immense popularity. The series is largely targeted at the otaku croud with various references to other anime and Japanese pop culture. This is one of the most original anime series in years and there are several key points that prove this.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya starts out with Episode 00. It features the main characters of the anime cast in a film made for a school cultural festival. This episode does not happen chronologically until several episodes down the line, a feature this series uses throughout its airing. Many viewers were turned off of the show by this first episode, not understanding what was going on or thinking the series was about something completely different. Theoretically, one could skip episode 00 and would not lose any of the series. However you lose the very original and unique feel of the series. The story actually starts with episode 1. This out-of-order approach continues throughout the series. For example, what would be episode 4 is not aired until episode 7. The DVD release follows chronological order though, with episode 00 still showing first.

The series uses many otaku references throughout. They are used in-character by Haruhi and others which gives it a very real-life feel to it while also keeping the silly atmosphere. Chief among these are more and bunny girl outfits. Must more central to the plot is the inclusion of non-human beings like aliens in a high school setting.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-gtk7

Don't get caught up in all the asides though. The real appeal to this series is in the title character, Haruhi Suzumiya, and her group of clubmates. Haruhi takes the beautiful lead-female character and transforms it into a class of her own with her oddities and anything but melancholic personality. The series takes off with Kyon talking with Haruhi, a very rare occurrence for Haruhi; none of her other classmates could get a word out of her. Kyon is the narrator of the series and is also a principle character in the series. A seemingly-cynical high school student, Kyon is dragged into Haruhi's club unwillingly but decides to stay to protect the other members. They consist of Yuki Nagato, a very quiet first-year student who always has her nose in a book; Mikuru Asahina, a beautiful junior who is extremely timid and seemingly at Haruhi's mercy; and Itsuki Koizumi, the mysterious transfer student Haruhi was wishing for. All of the other club members seem to do Haruhi's bidding but in truth they all have their own secret agenda for being there.

The soundtrack is used very well in the series. But the ending theme really steals the show, becoming immensely popular around the world. Most of the OST was done by Haruhi's seiyyu, Aya Hirano, with Chihara Minori and Yuko Goto, the seiyyus for Yuki and Mikuru, respectively, also performing.

The DVD has several changes from the original broadcast episodes. One major point is several changes in dubbing from the original. For example, "Future Man" is used instead of "time traveler" from the fansub, and the originally "Date Integration Thought Entity" shortened to simply "thought entity." One should wonder why they would make changes like this that would seem to be unfavorable to most fans. There are also some minor changes in animation but they are very hard to catch.

The English cast is questionable at best. Its a good crew no doubt, but compared with the original Japanese they just don't stand up to the task. Wendee Lee played Haruhi in the English dub and definitely had the excitement and tone to play Haruhi. But when compared to Aya Hirano, Wendee's voice just seems out of place. Crispin Freeman does a fair job as Kyon and might be the best of the English crew. Stephanie Sheh mimics the voice of Mikuru fairly well but it just doesn't sound like a genuine English voice. Johnny Bosch's voice is considerably different than Daisuke Ono but still fit the part fine. Michelle Ruff's rendition of Yuki is too monotone even for a character like Yuki.

Haruhi's merry crew-gtk10

Bandai was not a popular choice to license Haruhi but has done a good job thus far. DVD 1 is packed with extras like "making of"'s and behind-the-scenes looks at tv spots. The Limited Edition also come with the ED CD, a cosplay hair ribbon, a drawing board, and an iron-on shirt transfer.

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya-gtk11

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is an anime that will appeal mostly to the otaku crowd but can give universal enjoyment. Volume 1 only gives a glimpse of what is to come in this drama-packed comedy.

Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 Villetta Nu Figure

Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion R2 Villetta Nu Figure

Time stopping covers

Original title was to be cover lust but well yeah I dunno if that does these justice to associate such a negative term as “Lust” to these stunning, heart stopping, breaks the fourth wall and Possibly ever time barrier ever (Todd agrees), Luscious covers. So basicly epic cover spam with links and comments at the end. I will say this three of these books are old (2010 and 2009) however I still liked them and they just fit. So lets start with the “best” to the “good not great”

1.Dearly Departed (
Wow so this is the cover that started this whole entry I saw this cover and knew I had to do something with it steampunk/gothic covers are awesome! Now wether I'll read the story is another question

2.The map of time (
There is a giveaway for this I almost entered but then it dawned on me this might not be in english also I didn't like the time machine much so Idk if I would have liked this one anyway

3.The pledge (
I've loved this cover from the start I even asked Audrey at holes in my brain to discuss it since thats her thing the story sounds really good to this is a wait and see and it is definitely on my questioning if I'll read it list/folder

4.Saltwater vampires (
Creepy! I think this is the only truly scary one on this list the cover and the story sound fantastic this is another one that is in the questioning pile but it defiantly looks like it's worth a shot

5.The greyfriar Vampire empire (
This one I love love love and might read or might put in the question to read and might get back to it later I love the guy on the front cover with his cool coat and goggles hmm

6.Small town sinners (
I Love this I love the way the girl looks like she's done something regretful and the apple! The forbidden fruit with a heart bitten out of it the story sounds intrusting as well and this one is also on my list for maybe

7.Silver Borne (
Yes yes yes this is Old I know but I STILL love this cover and this cover will most likely make me go back to the series sooner or later come on this is pretty epic

8.Possession (
Buterfly in an icecube! Very white and very different not the best but not the worst somewhere inbetween and yes this is on my questioning list

9.Deathwish (
I'll be honest I found this one on a list while looking for more covers I have no interest in reading this one but I couldn't let it go either also doesn't the one guy look like Danny from grease?
